The Naked and the Deadly: Lawrence Block in Men’s Adventure Magazines [FULL COLOR PAPERBACK EDITION]
$29.95
This listing is for the 6″ x 9″ deluxe, full color paperback edition of THE NAKED AND THE DEADLY: LAWRENCE BLOCK IN MEN’S ADVENTURE MAGAZINES.
It collects the lost men’s adventure magazine stories of Lawrence Block, presented complete and uncut for the first time, with cover scans of the magazines and the original illustrations reprinted in full color. The deluxe hardcover edition, sold by me and (Amazon) in a separate listing, has as additional “bonus” story that’s not in this edition. The smaller 4.37″ x 7″ trade paperback edition, also sold by me here and on Amazon, reprints the same stories as this full color paperback edition, but with small black-and-white illustrations. A special limited edition of the hardcover signed by Lawrence Block and editors Robert Deis and Wyatt Doyle is available via this link.
These stories first appeared in men’s adventure magazines in the 1950s and 1960s, long before Lawrence Block became one of the most widely read, respected, and celebrated writers of crime and mystery fiction in the world. Some of the stories were originally published under his own name, some under pseudonyms.
The book includes a special introduction written by Lawrence Block, three long “Book Bonus” mystery stories featuring Block’s first Private Investigator character Ed London (“The Naked and the Deadly”, “Stag Party Girl” and “Twin Call Girls”), and two Book Bonuses featuring his unique insomniac action/adventure anti-hero Evan Tanner. Other stories are examples of the type of wild action/adventure yarns, exposés and “sexposés” featured in vintage men’s adventure magazines.
